About us
Welcome to Manchester Ice Hockey.
We are a group of players, who have played Ice Hockey at almost every level in the UK. We have also all experienced over 20 years of Ice Hockey in the UK. On top of that, we now have a range of experience in professional roles outside of Ice Hockey. We can therefore see the ‘hidden’ side of the sport and how business affects our game.
Ice Hockey and Inline Hockey are simply the most exciting sports ever created but the sport is difficult to start. This is because it is expensive and requires a lot of financial outlay to get started. There is also a lot to learn before you participate in the sport (i.e. learning to skate). There is also a lack of information available out there, which also puts people off the sport (e.g. where and how do I get my skates sharpened?).
As if this isn’t enough, despite Manchester being one of the best (maybe the best) cities in the UK, it is not well set up to help people into the sport. Cities like Sheffield and Nottingham eclipse Manchester in this. That changes now.
So this is our mission. To provide a source of information for Ice Hockey and Inline Hockey in Manchester. We also want to raise the profile of the great teams already out there and the players involved in the game.

You will be able to get involved with Ice Hockey in Manchester and follow all the news, teams and updates. We have a wealth of knowledge on all aspects of the game (from playing to the business side of the game), not only in Manchester but around the country.
MIH wants to break down the barriers to playing the sport in the UK and Manchester. We hope to do this by providing you with plenty of up to date information that might have been difficult to find previously. We would also like to push forward and assist by other means, potentially offering scholarships in the future for example.
The simple premise that the more people following, playing, coaching, watching this great sport make it better for everyone is followed by MIH. In short, the more people that are willing to engage with and spend money on this amazing sport, means that it is more likely to attract investment (badly needed) making the sport in the UK better for everyone.

Where can I play?
Manchester has two rinks that facilitate Ice Hockey. These are very much the central hub for the sport in the region. First and foremost is Planet Ice at Altrincham, which is in South West Manchester. Secondly, there is a Planet Ice rink at Blackburn, which is North West of Manchester city centre.
Manchester’s Ice Hockey Scene
Not only is Manchester one of the coolest cities in the world, it could easily be argued that it is the cultural capital of the UK. Due to this it has a wealth of exciting teams.
We split Ice Hockey into the below categories in this city. We play professional Ice Hockey with the Manchester Storm in the Elite League. The Altrincham Aces play competitive or ‘league’ hockey in the city. Finally, we play casual hockey with a number of recreational ‘Rec’ teams. Rec hockey is less serious that the other options. It is great for those looking to get started in the sport.
